The National Community Survey™ results have been released, with Western Springs evaluated against numerous communities nationwide. The survey was conducted in mid-June when 3,500 randomly selected households received postcards inviting them to participate over six weeks. A total of 836 completed surveys were returned, resulting in a response rate of 24%, which is significantly higher than the typical range of 10-15%. Additionally, an open online survey was available for three weeks starting July 9, garnering another 168 responses.
A report detailing the findings was presented to the Village Trustees on October 28. Several aspects of Western Springs ranked highly in the national benchmark database and were emphasized in the report.
Western Springs achieved first place among all communities in categories such as "Sense of community," "Preservation of historical/cultural character of the community," "Neighborliness of residents," and "Fire prevention and education."
The village also secured second place nationally in areas including "Residents’ neighborhood as a place to live," "Western Springs as a place to raise children," "Feeling of safety in downtown/commercial areas during the day," and "Sense of civic/community pride."
