Go Painters is set to commence the Village's 2024 Fire Hydrant Painting Project on October 25. The initiative involves painting 400 hydrants throughout the Village. In comparison, last year saw the completion of 250 hydrants by the same company. An additional 80 unpainted hydrants are scheduled for painting in 2025.

The scope of work includes preparing and protecting areas around each fire hydrant, sandblasting off existing paint according to SSPC-SP6/NACE 3 Commercial Blast Cleaning standards, and applying a coat of SW MACROPOXY 646 UNIVERSAL METAL PRIMER. This primer is typically pink in color. A topcoat of SW Acrolon 218HS paint will then be applied, featuring two colors per hydrant to indicate its fire flow capacity and comply with Insurance Services Office (ISO) standards.

The two-toned paint scheme reflects ISO requirements, where the secondary color represents the flow rate each hydrant can provide. The bonnet color codes are as follows: Blue for hydrants with a flow rate of 1,500 gallons per minute (GPM) or greater; Green for those between 1,000 and 1,499 GPM; Orange for rates between 500 and 999 GPM; and Red for less than 500 GPM. These colors help indicate the volume of water available to firefighters during emergencies.
