After Halloween, residents are encouraged to compost their pumpkins. Flood Brothers will provide a dumpster at Riverside Foods' parking lot from Friday, November 1 until noon on Friday, November 8.

Flood Brothers and Riverside Foods emphasize the benefits of composting pumpkins. They note that pumpkins are rich in nutrients beneficial for soil and consist of 90% water. Composting helps retain these resources locally, especially since most U.S.-processed pumpkins come from Illinois.

Additionally, landfills rank as the third-largest producers of methane gas. By composting pumpkins instead of discarding them in landfills, this environmental impact can be reduced.

It is important to remove any decorative additions before composting. This includes items like candles, yarn hair, stickers, googly eyes, and plastic ears. Only the pumpkin itself should be placed in the compost.

"Don't Let Your Waste Haunt You. Compost Your Pumpkin!" encourages responsible disposal practices during this post-Halloween period.
