The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced that the ongoing project on 55th Street will face delays, extending into late fall before pausing for the winter. The work is set to resume in spring and continue through the fall of 2025. This initiative falls under IDOT's jurisdiction and not within the Village's responsibilities.

A notice posted on the IDOT construction website dated September 18, 2024, states: "Due to unforeseen utility conflicts on 55th Street between Wolf Road and Laurel Avenue additional time is needed to complete the project." The revised timeline indicates that work will pick up in the coming weeks, weather permitting, and extend through late fall. During winter, lanes closed between Plainfield and Wolf roads are expected to reopen.

The statement further clarifies: "Work will resume next spring and is anticipated to be completed in fall 2025." It also notes that during this period, "55th Street will return to one lane in each direction between Plainfield and Wolf roads."
