The Riverside Landscape Advisory Commission (LAC) is extending an invitation to residents interested in learning about the parks and triangles adjacent to their homes. While larger parks in Riverside receive most of the attention during community workdays, many residents live closer to smaller parks, technically referred to as "triangles," even when some are not triangular.
Residents from two or more families can schedule a visit with an LAC Commissioner, who will guide them through up to three triangles or one of the larger parks, helping identify the plants growing there. This initiative is best conducted before the leaves fall, but Spring 2025 dates can also be arranged if preferred.
"We want to increase understanding and appreciation of the unique landscape of Riverside," stated an LAC representative. The commission also aims to identify individuals or groups willing to serve as Park Stewards. These stewards will collaborate with the Village Forester, Public Works, and the LAC to improve local parks by monitoring specific triangles for weeds, sick trees, and other issues. Under the guidance of the Village Forester, stewards may also engage in weeding and planting activities.
For 2024, the LAC has allocated a small amount of funds for providing Park Stewards with native plants to enhance their designated areas.
Interested parties are encouraged to contact the LAC via email at lac@riverside.il.us and suggest suitable dates and times for participation.
