Village of Franklin Park Tree Preservation Commission met Aug. 20

Here is the agenda provided by the commission:

III. APPROVAL AND SIGNING OF JUNE 18, 2024 MINUTES

IV. BUSINESS

1. Welcome to our new member, Kayla Fahey, to the Tree Preservation board. Member Fahey took her oath of office and was appointed to the Tree board on August 12th.

2. Updates on upcoming tree plantings, targeted planting locations, and types of trees being planted.

3. The Bee Board presentation scheduled for July 15th (FPPL summer bash outdoor event) was canceled due to weather.

Rescheduling: Possible future dates for the Bee presentation event were discussed with FPPL

Head of Youth Services, Connie Meade:

*Thursday October 3rd (Preferred)

*Tuesday October 8th

*Monday October 14th

4. The Tree and Bee Board participated at a Back to School event (Saturday, August 10th, from 4 PM to 6 PM) held at James Park in Franklin Park, Illinois. The event was sponsored by Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), State Representative Norma Hernandez (D-77), and Franklin Park Mayor Barrett F. Pedersen. The MWRD community residents were personally notified by volunteers.

5. Confirmed speakers for October 12th seminar:

*Kelsay Shaw, owner Possibility Place

*Xerces Society Ambassador, Brandie Dunn

*Carl Hament, CRTI Community Coordinator, The Morton Arboretum

6. Discuss Flyer for Seminar.

7. Member Ambo: Draft for a flyer to encourage residents to request a tree

8. Discuss three Grant applications/requirement eligibility for the Tree and Bee Board with upcoming deadlines:

*Pollinator Meadows Program Foundation Grant

*National Garden Club grant

*Association for Butterflies (AFB)
