City of Countryside City Council met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. CALL TO ORDER –The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor McDermott. City Clerk Kmet led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mayor McDermott asked for a Moment of Silence in honor of former Alderman and City Clerk, Denise Likens, who passed away this week. 

Roll Call: City Clerk Kmet called the Roll of those physically present as follows: 

Present: Mayor McDermott, Alderman Finn, Alderman Von Drasek, Alderman Benson, Alderman Mikolyzk, Alderman Frohlich, Alderman Musillami, City Clerk Kmet, Treasurer Bolt 

Also Present: City Administrator Paul, Police Chief Klimek, City Attorney Peck, City Engineer Fitzgerald  

Absent: Assistant City Administrator Schutter, Deputy Clerk Saucedo  

2. OMNIBUS AGENDA 

a. Approval of the City Council Meeting Minutes of September 27, 2023. 

b. Statement of Bills submitted for payment through October 11, 2023 in the amount of $506,710.88. 

A motion was made by Alderman Musillami, seconded by Alderman Frohlich that this matter be APPROVED as presented; motion carried by the following vote:  

Aye: 6 Alderman Musillami, Alderman Von Drasek, Alderman Finn, Alderman Mikolyzk, Alderman Benson, Alderman Frohlich 

Nay: 0  

3. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC 

a. Hugh Kunerad, 5840 S. Kensington, asked about the status of security cameras proposed for Countryside Park. Police Chief Klimek is currently working on that project; three bids have been solicited; only one vendor provided a quote; he is awaiting the other two. It is a wired 24/7 system; it will involve a point-to-point wireless radio system on the south side of the park with a continuous recording. Suggestion made to put the cameras atop the two street lights to cover both the street and the parking lot. They will be four-way cameras pointed out at the street and parking lot; others will be pointed into the park.

1. FYI – At the August 9 meeting the City Council approved the PD applying for a grant with the Illinois AG’s Office for LPR cameras; the grant was approved for $7,500. 

b. City Engineer Fitzgerald  

1. Consideration of Engineer’s Pay Estimate #2 and Final in the amount of $12,824.41 to Pavement Systems, Inc., of Blue Island, IL for the Municipal Complex parking lot sealcoating – plus the Brainard bike path and Countryside Park; all work has been completed; PW says it looks good and should be closed. 

A motion was made by Alderman Benson, seconded by Alderman Musillami that this matter be APPROVED as presented; motion carried by the following vote:  

Aye: 6 Alderman Musillami, Alderman Von Drasek, Alderman Finn, Alderman Mikolyzk, Alderman Benson, Alderman Frohlich 

Nay: 0  

2. Consideration of Engineer’s Pay estimate #1 in the amount of $632,732.40 to Suburban General Construction, Inc., of LaGrange, IL for the Sunset Avenue water main replacement. Alderman Von Drasek commented that they are doing a tremendous job; any issues were addressed quickly; the City is very appreciative. 

A motion was made by Alderman Von Drasek, seconded by Alderman Mikolyzk that this matter be APPROVED as presented; motion carried by the following vote:  

Aye: 6 Alderman Musillami, Alderman Von Drasek, Alderman Finn, Alderman Mikolyzk, Alderman Benson, Alderman Frohlich 

Nay: 0  

 3. FYI – re: IDOT Project on East Avenue. October 18-19 (overnight) will be a full closure of East Avenue between 55th St. and Joliet Road for fiber optic cable installation from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured; signage will be prominently displayed. The Mayor noted that information was placed on the City Website and on Facebook.

A motion was made by Alderman Mikolyzk, seconded by Alderman Musillami that this meeting be ADJOURNED; motion carried by the following vote:

Nay: 0  

Mayor McDermott declared the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
