Village of Franklin Park Tree Preservation Commission met Oct. 17.

2. Member Ambo: Tree Preservation Committee website update. Link review: comments/suggestions

3. SFPFD Smolen: NASA Artemis Moon Tree seedling application submitted. The application period closed Friday, Oct. 6.

4. SFPFD Smolen: Metropolitan Mayors Caucus report

5. SFPFD Smolen: Spring Grove Nursery tree order list submitted

6. Continued discussion: Creating a Tree Preservation Ordinance for the protection of planted trees, all landmark trees in Franklin Park, including on private property.

7. Member Costa: Seed Swap event

8. Add to website: What/where is the oldest tree in Franklin Park? (Ask residents to submit location and tree picture to SFPFD Smolen)

9. East Leyden High School event for April or May: Begin discussion and planning for a limited number of speakers and topics. Propose specific topics. (Kathy Kubeczko Science Department)

10. Member Noth: Request a Tree Keepers representative/speaker

VI. NEW BUSINESS

1. SFPFD Smolen: CRTI Grant: Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI) Urban and Community Forestry Grant. (Grant awards are available for a minimum of $3,000 and a maximum of $30,000. For all communities, a 1:1 match is required. Deadline: Monday, November 13, 2023 at 5:00 p.m)

2. Member Ambo: ‘America in Bloom AIB/CN’ Grant Information

(CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up supports collaborative community greening projects that enhance landscapes in communities neighboring CN rail lines).

3. Member Ambo: Grant list. Appoint a member to review

4. Discussion: Compile a list of smaller native trees/shrubs/dogwoods. Can they be incorporated into areas where smaller trees are needed? What areas would benefit?
