Stars Go 2-0 in Blue Angel Dome Invite

The Dominican University softball team went to the Peoria Dome for the Blue Angel Dome Invite on Thursday.

The Stars took on Augustana College in the first game and Finlandia University in the second. These were DU's first two games of the season.

Game 1 Results:
Augustana: 3
Dominican: 6

How it Happened:
-Dominican fell behind early with Augustana scoring a run in the first and second inning.
-The Stars fought back with a run in the second and third inning to tie the game 2-2 after three innings.
-Dominican continued to add to their run total in the fourth inning, taking a 3-2 lead.
-The Stars then got their lone home run of the day from junior Theresa Wilsterman in the fifth inning, which scored two runs.
-DU capped off their scoring in the sixth and then held on to only give up 1 run the rest of the game.

Shining Stars:
-Wilsterman hit her first home run of the season with a 2-run shot.
-Freshman Ryley Davis made her collegiate debut count, driving in 2 runs as well.
-Sophomore Emma Woodhouse made her 2023 pitching debut and she pitched all 7 innings only allowing 3 runs.

Game 2 Results:
Dominican: 19
Finlandia: 0

How it Happened:
-Dominican carried their hot bats to the second game and jumped to a 5-0 lead.
-The Stars added to it in the third, highlighted by an inside-the-park home run by junior Priscylla Rutter.
-Dominican led 11-0 after three innings.
-The Stars weren't done there and they produced 5 more runs in the fourth inning.
-DU then capped off their terrific performance with a 3-run fifth inning to win by the run rule.

Shining Stars:
-Freshman Paytin Salfi made her collegiate debut. She came in as a pinch hitter and created a 2-run double in the fourth inning and a 2-run single in the fifth.
-The Stars had nine players with multi-hit games.
-Senior Geneva Pollman and junior Kayla Faber-Cournane combined for a shut-out and only allowed 3 hits.

What's Next:
The Dominican University softball team heads on their spring break trip to Florida where they will play in 12 games.
