The Cook County Republican Party’s Central Committee County Convention was held Wednesday at Moretti’s Edison Park in Chicago, re-electing Sean Morrison to serve a third term as chairman of the county GOP.

In a news release posted on Facebook Thursday, Morrison noted that as Cook County Republican Party chairman, he has focused on forging a unified leadership team across the county.

“Collaborative leadership is what’s needed for a vibrant and successful Republican Party,” he said in the statement on Facebook. “I want to thank all of my fellow committee (members) for their overwhelming support. Though there is still more work to be done, I do believe we’ve grown into a much more unified and productive body over the past six years.”

Morrison also stated that he remains committed to focusing on continuing a productive and positive approach during his next two-year term as chairman.

According to the Cook County website, Morrison, who represents the 17th District’s 300,000 residents, is one of 17 county commissioners serving on the Board of Commissioners, which is under the leadership of Tony Preckwinkle, a Democrat.

Morrison garnered just over 57% of the vote in the June 28 primary for the Cook County Board, fending off a challenge by Elizabeth Doody Gorman, according to the Daily Herald. He will face Democrat Daniel Calandriello in the fall general election.
