Men's Volleyball Calls on Craft to Lead Program into Future

159

Dominican University Athletics announced the hiring of William Craft as its newest Head Men's Volleyball Coach on Friday afternoon.

Craft, a native of Crete, Ill., brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience at the NCAA Division III and professional levels. A 2016 graduate of Carthage College, Craft was named an AVCA All-American in 2016 following an outstanding career for the Firebirds.

"I would like to thank Dominican University for giving me this opportunity to lead the Men's Volleyball program and get to work with an amazing group of young men. I am excited to build on the program's past success and winning tradition. I have played and coached against Dominican for years, and I always noticed the great reputation and standards that this program holds itself to. That was something that drew me to this position during the interview process."

Following his collegiate career, Craft took his talents overseas, playing and coaching for four years in Germany and Denmark for various professional clubs. He was a part of two bronze-medal finishes, one in the German Bundesliga and one in the Danish Cup, along with being named the Danish league's Top Outside Hitter following the 2018 season.

Craft returned to Kenosha, Wis. following his professional career and was on staff for Carthage's second-consecutive NCAA National Championship this past season. He still competes professionally, in the USA's Volleyball League of America (VLA) for the Chicago Icemen, one of the top teams in the VLA's first division.

He joins a Dominican program that has qualified for two Final Fours and an Elite Eight in the past four available seasons of NCAA Tournament play. Most recently, the Stars finished with a 25-2 overall record in 2022 and won the program's first-ever NACC 'double', claiming outright championships in both the regular and postseasons.
