Women's Soccer's Green Headed to Brazil as Selection on USA Sports D-3 Team

Dominican University women's soccer's Gabby Green has been selected for the prestigious USA Sports D-3 Soccer Team, of which will be traveling for competition and experiential learning in Brazil next week.

Green, a 2022 graduate, was a standout on the pitch for the Stars throughout her career and is the first player in program history to be selected to this team.

"Gabby was an outstanding player for us and could not be more deserving of this honor. She has been a cornerstone of our program and its success over her playing career and has been recognized for this on both the conference and national level," said head coach Carlos Carrillo.  

Green, a central defender earned the NACC's Defensive Player of the Year following the 2021 season, anchoring a DU backline which surrendered a league-best 0.46 goals per game. She started in 24 matches and was also named Second Team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches.

The USA D-3 Soccer Teams are a compilation of the best NCAA Division III women's players from across the country.  This team is comprised of players recognized as All Americans, All Region and All Conference.  The 18 women's players hail from 10 different schools and 9 different home states.

The USA D-3 Soccer tour will run from May 29 through June 7.  The squad will begin with orientation in Orlando, Florida on May 29th before the team flies to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that evening.  The team will be Rio de Janeiro on Monday, May 30th.    The team will play 3 matches while in Rio.  They will play either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday before playing Botofogo Clube on Saturday, June 4th.   They may play another match on Sunday, June 5th versus a team to be announced from Rio de Janeiro.  The USA D-3 Soccer team will be competing against top U-22 club teams from the State of Rio de Janeiro.

While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.  While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
