Dan Vasta brings an extensive background in sports media to his role as Sports Information Director at Morton College.
Vasta's responsibilities include publicizing and promoting the accomplishments of Morton College student-athletes in the 12 intercollegiate sports offered at the state's second-oldest community college. He will maintain Morton College's athletic web site – www.gomcpanthers.com – through generating content with game stories, feature profiles, and current rosters, statistics and results as well as managing the Panther athletic social media accounts.
The Elmhurst native attended Montini High School in Lombard and graduated from Elmhurst College (now University) with a degree in Communications. At Elmhurst, Vasta was the sports editor of the college's student newspaper and hosted a radio show, "On Campus," that centered around Elmhurst College athletics.
He went through an intensive 10-month postgraduate program at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting (now the Illinois Media School) where Vasta studied TV and radio podcasting, editing, camera work and TV/radio production.
Vasta has been a college football blogger for the Bleacher Report.com and covered the NFL, PGA, MLB and college football as a writer for Streamline Media. He also has experience as a producer and social media coordinator for Campus Insiders and Stadium.
"I'm excited and highly motivated to help the student-athletes at Morton College excel," Vasta said. "We'll use a variety of platforms and avenues to get people excited and be a part of the winning culture we're developing at Morton College."
In his capacity as Morton College's Sports Information Director, Vasta wants to take advantage of Morton College's radio station (WZQC – 99.1 FM) to broadcast games and produce weekly programming featuring Panther student-athletes and athletic department staff members. He'd also like to expand the Morton College athletic brand through social media and podcasts.
"There are so many different avenues available to create an awareness and an excitement about Morton College," Vasta said. "It is my job to maximize these platforms to the fullest capacity, get the greatest amount of exposure for our student-athletes as possible, build a loyal fan base and reconnect with the thousands who have proudly represented Panther Nation in the past."
Vasta has umpired Elmhurst youth baseball games for 23 years. He has helped orchestrate baseball and basketball camps since he was in high school. Vasta strongly believes in giving student-athletes the best experience possible.
