Patent office takes 1,075 days to approve Berwyn inventor’s patent in week ending Aug. 14

The longest time between a patent being filed and granted in the week ending Aug. 14 in Berwyn was 1,075 days, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent application was filed by Te Connectivity Corporation for a communication system having a receptacle cage with an airflow channel. It was filed on Aug. 31, 2018 before being approved on Aug. 10, 2021.

Though patents are required for inventions and products, the granting of a patent is not a guarantee for success. Dennis Crouch, co-director of the Center for Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship said roughly 50 percent of patents expire prematurely due to costs.

There were three patents granted for Berwyn inventors in the week ending Aug. 14.
