Republican Dan Patlak's lead in the race for Cook County Board of Review 1st District seat narrowed as of Tuesday. Patlak, the incumbent, leads with 50.9% of the counted votes while his opponent, Democrat Tammy Wendt, trails with 49.1% of the votes.

Patlak has held the seat on the Board of Review for 10 years, 2021 would begin his sixth term in office. Chief among his endorsements is the Chicago Tribune, which praised Patlak’s enthusiasm for his seat in office. 

“Frankly, we don’t know many elected officials who get as animated and engaged about property taxes and saving money for homeowners and businesses as Patlak,” the editorial board said.

Wendt is a real estate broker and has 20 years of experience as an attorney. According to her website, Wendt’s platform focused on making the appeals process more accessible for middle-class taxpayers.

As of Nov. 10, over 600,000 ballots have been counted in the race for the seat on the Board of Review, and ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 will be counted as they arrive until Nov. 17.
