Earlier this year, both hospitals were also recognized by Healthgrades for being among America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2020. This was the fourteenth consecutive year for AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center and the fifth for AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center on this elite list.
“We celebrate these important recognitions because they illustrate just how hard every one of our physicians, clinicians and staff work to maintain a consistent high level of quality and patient safety each and every year,” said Dr. Stuart Marcus, chief clinical officer for AMITA Health. “This is just a sample of the quality patients can expect from hospitals throughout our system.”
According to Healthgrades analysis of Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data for years 2017 through 2019, hospitals having achieved these levels of care have demonstrated exceptional quality of care. For example, for the period 2017 through 2019, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery Award, such as AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center, have on average a 54.4 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, according to their analysis.
“Now more than ever, consumers understand the importance of hospital quality and are starting to become more diligent when researching where they receive care,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer for Healthgrades. “When selecting a hospital, consumers can feel confident in these recognized hospitals for their commitment to quality care and exceptional outcomes.”
