Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois alleging that the State of Illinois, the Illinois State Board of Elections, and its director have failed to permit public access to voter roll data in violation of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
The lawsuit alleges the state prevented the nonprofit Illinois Conservative Union and three registered Illinois voters who sought copies of the Illinois voter registration list from obtaining it, according to Judicial Watch. The case was filed as Illinois Conservative Union et al v. Illinois et al. (No. 1:20-cv-05542).
“Federal law provides that states ‘shall make available for public inspection and, where available, photocopying at a reasonable cost, all records concerning the implementation of programs and activities conducted for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy and currency of official lists of eligible voters,’” Judicial Watch stated.
