Franklin Park FD responds to 94 fires in 2018

Franklin Park Fire District responded to 1210 calls in 2018 - 25.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Franklin Park included 94 fires - 68 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 18 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $850,500 in fire loss - or about $9,048 per fire.

The department also received 1113 false calls, including 22 malicious calls and 1091 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Franklin Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 43 active employees and 54 retired or inactive employees, was $425,781 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $4,951 for every fire in 2017.
