Leyden FPD responds to 42 fires in 2018

Leyden Fire Protection District responded to 164 calls in 2018 - 22.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Leyden included 42 fires - 23 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $80,250 in fire loss - or about $1,911 per fire.

The department also received 120 false calls, including three malicious calls and 117 other false calls.

The Leyden Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,720,105 in 2017.

The Leyden FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and 15 retired or inactive employees, was $501,277 in debt as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $9,640 for every fire in 2017.
