A poll shows Republican challenger Pat O’Brien has pulled within striking distance of Democrat incumbent Kim Foxx in the race for Cook County state’s attorney.
The Cook County Republican Party posted the latest figures on its website on Sept. 17. Nearly 34% of individuals polled by Ogden & Fry prefer O’Brien, the Cook County Circuit Court 1st Municipal District judge, compared to approximately 48% who chose Foxx. GOP Chairman Sean Morrison said the poll numbers reflect an increasing frustration with Foxx’s handling of crime.
“What these poll numbers illustrate is that law-abiding residents from across Cook County have had enough of the rioting, looting, violent crime, murdered children and general lawlessness that has raged on across the city of Chicago and Cook County under the disastrous policies of Kim Foxx,” Morrison said.
Ogden & Fry conducted the poll on Sept. 5, with 447 likely voters participating. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 3.77% at the 95% confidence interval, the release said.
Morrison expressed confidence in O’Brien’s chance in pulling what would be considered a huge upset some years in the making.
“The poll shows that Judge O’Brien has a real opportunity to upset Chicago’s corrupt political machine led by Toni Preckwinkle and Kim Foxx,” Morrison said. “Voters are looking for a candidate that will help restore law and order and bring a renewed level of professional integrity to the office of State’s Attorney. Pat O’Brien is that candidate.”
Chicago Daily Herald reported that while O’Brien and Foxx agree on violent crime being a top priority, one feels the other is not prepared to address the problem given their record.
