Illinois State Rep. Grant Wehrli (R-Dist. 41) recently issued a statement honoring Cindi Swanson, an advocate for disabled persons, as she leaves the state this fall.
"I want to acknowledge a tremendous community leader and fierce advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families,"Wehrli said in a release issued on his website. "Sadly, Cindi Swanson is moving out of Illinois this fall. Her advocacy and determination truly exemplify all that is good about our community."
Wehrli recalls the first conversation he had with Swanson not long after he took office in 2015. She contacted him and asked how he planned to help the developmentally disabled population of his district. He credits her as the driving motivation behind his own advocacy for mentally challenged individuals.
"As I listened to her and learned about the struggles these families face on a daily basis, I was convinced that this population needs a strong legislative voice in Springfield and I would help fill that role,"Wehrli said in the release.
