2018 Recap: Parolees in Chicago convicted of drug crimes

There were 1,983 offenders convicted of drug crimes released on parole in Chicago during 2018, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the West Cook News.

The data shows that 1,833 men and 150 women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for drug crimes, 13 were veterans, and the median age was 39. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced in 2018, and the oldest was a 72-year-old man sentenced in 2017.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Arnold Day. He was convicted of a crime involving drugs in 1994 when he was 21 years old. He is now 46.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below shows the 50 cities in Illinois with the most paroled offenders in 2018 who were convicted of drug crimes.
