The price of local government in 2017: Village of Bellwood

The Village of Bellwood budget was $46.43 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $8,155 per household.

That's a decrease of 55.7 percent from 2016, when the village spent $104.74 million, or $18,398 per household.

Bellwood has 5,693 households and a population of 19,701.

Since 2002, the Village of Bellwood budget has grown by 82.1 percent, from $25.50 million. The village population has fallen 4.1 percent over the same period, from 20,535.

Salaries accounted for 21.3 percent of village spending in 2017. Bellwood property taxpayers paid $9.89 million for 146 full-time employees and 118 part-time employees.

In 2002, the village had 150 full-time employees and 88 part-time employees, and spent $12.66 million.
