City of Northlake issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
The long vacant and dilapidated retail buildings across North Avenue from City hall will soon be demolished to make way for Wisdom Village II, a companion building to Wisdom Village I which is located on Wolf Road behind the McDonald’s.
The City of Northlake assembled this site and has entered into a 99 year lease with the developer for $1.00 per year. In exchange for this contribution to the project, Northlake residents will have first preference to 16 of the units in the building.
Wisdom Village of Northlake II is the second phase of the successful Wisdom Village of Northlake development, which is fully leased and has an extensive waiting list. It will involve the demolition of three (3) existing, vacant commercial spaces and the new construction of a six-story elevator building providing subsidized rent for seniors ages 62+. This 53,778 square foot new construction building will have fifty (50) units, comprised of forty-two (42) one- and eight (8) two-bedroom apartments. Both unit types will offer gracious living spaces, with square footage planned to from 646-707 sf for the one-bedroom units and 955-965 for the two-bedroom units, respectively. Further, the building will offer forty-three (43) parking spots.
The building is situated along North Avenue to encourage pedestrian interaction and is intended to be of similar scale and materials as other recently completed developments in the area. This includes incorporating brick with stone accents in a manner that is reflective of the neighboring context. The site is particularly suited for senior housing, with amenities including retail shopping, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, restaurants and classes and activities and classes for seniors at nearby Grant Park. It is well served by several PACE bus lines on North Avenue.
The project will offer various amenity spaces that will be able to serve the residents’ needs and encourage social activity, while providing them with opportunities to stay active. It will provide generously sized units–15% larger than the minimum requirement, an exercise/fitness room, Energy Star-rated dishwashers, and trash disposal chutes. Kitchens will include wood cabinets, laminate counters and energy-efficient appliances.
