City of Northlake Council met Aug. 13.

The regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Sherwin asked everyone to stand for the pledge of allegiance. Mayor Sherwin called for the roll.

Present: Alderman Straube, Feldmann, Contreras, Werba, Gonzalez, Grochowski And Patti
Absent: Alderman Padilla
Others Present: Nancy Pauletto, City Clerk Carol Lampard, Finance Director Mark Sterk, Attorney Norm Nissen, Chief of Police Dale Roberts, Superintendent Public Works
Mayor Sherwin presented the minutes of the regular meeting held on July 16, 2018. Alderman Patti made a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held July 16, 2018; seconded by Alderman Grochowski. Mayor Sherwin asked if there were any additions or corrections. Mayor Sherwin called for a voice vote. All were in favor.

City Council Meeting Carried
Mayor Sherwin presented the minutes of the Special Meeting held on July 23, 2018. Alderman Werba made a motion to accept the minutes of the Special Meeting held July 23, 2018; seconded by Alderman Contreras. Mayor Sherwin called for a voice vote. All were in favor. Alderman Feldmann, Grochowski, and Patti abstained.

Special City Council Meeting Carried
Resident Eddy Garcia introduced the group/committee who will spearhead the efforts to detach the south side of the city from Proviso High School District. Information flyers will be provided to students on the first day of school. The group will be named “Northlake Future Generations”. Alderman Patti made a motion to pay the warrants and vouchers if and when the funds become available; seconded by Alderman Feldmann. Mayor Sherwin called for the roll.

Mayor Sherwin noted there is only one meeting next month, which would be Monday September 2nd; Alderman Straube noted the city will be receiving 20 free picnic tables from the Elk Grove Village Park District.
Alderman Patti made a motion to approve Ordinance O-17-2018; An Ordinance Prohibiting Short Term Rentals and Amending Title Three of the Northlake City Code; seconded by Alderman Contreras. This is a result of various municipalities having issues with AirBNB, etc. Mayor Sherwin called for the roll.

Section 8-8-1 of the Northlake City Code Regarding Requirements for Accessory Buildings Carried
A Victoria Avenue resident talked about speeding car issues on their block. Chief Nissen will have someone from the police department contact them to discuss. Mike Dunn talked about a homeless woman living in Hansen Park. Mayor Sherwin said the City is looking into various organizations that may be able to help. A resident of So. Harold, Linda, complained about the state of her back neighbor’s yard. Chief Nissen will have Code Enforcement check on it. A resident near Harold and Lemoyne, Elsie, complained about traffic control issues on her block.
Chief Nissen will have someone from the police department look into this. There being no further business, Alderman Straube made a motion to adjourn; seconded by
Alderman Patti. Mayor Sherwin called for a voice vote. All were in favor.
