TOWN HALL MEETING:
Mayor Tamburino opened the Town Hall section of the meeting.
Roger Romanelli, 4406 Madison, said there is a garbage can and a street sign at the Prairie Path and Forest Avenue that have graffiti. He asked if this can be painted over or the items replaced.
Mr. Romanelli stated he is showing a movie for friends on his garage door on August 18 and asked if the street light could be turned off for a few hours.
He also reported that the dumpsters from the apartment on Warren and Forest Avenues are overflowing. Garbage is left in bags outside of the dumpsters. He asked for direction on who to report this situation to after hours.
Mr. Romanelli said that he heard there was a mugging at Warren east of Forest Avenue last summer. He doesn't know exactly when, but hasn't seen any information on this incident.
He asked if the Village would consider a Crime Blotter on the village website.
Mr. Romanelli said the latest issue of the Village newspaper has an article on what streets in the Village will be repaired this summer. He asked how much money the Village has, how much money the Village takes in on an annual basis, how much money is spent on an annual basis and how citizens can participate in what streets need to be fixed.
As there were no further comments from the floor, Mayor Tamburino entertained a motion to close the Town Hall Meeting.
So moved by Trustee Kramer, seconded by Trustee Farries. All voting aye, motion carried.
Mayor Tamburino replied to Mr. Romanelli's questions. He said he didn't have any idea what it would take to turn off a street light for a few hours and he can't promise that this can be done. The street light belongs to Edison.
As far as the mugging, Mayor Tamburino said he was not aware of this incident. All Police Departments have a crime blotter. Cases can't be made public until either resolved or gone to court. Mayor Tamburino said if there is a problem we would know about it. He also said there is Neighborhood Watch Program for residents to join.
Mayor Tamburino responded to the garbage issue. He informed Mr. Romanelli that many citations have been issued in the last year to the building owner. Mayor Tamburino wants to make sure the size of the waste containers are adequate for the size of the apartment building. This item will be on the agenda for the August Board of a Whole Meeting. A discussion will be held on possibly adopting an Ordinance specifically for this issue. Mayor Tamburino will check with other villages to see how they are handling this problem. Mayor Tamburino said for right now to call the Police Desk and an officer will come out and check situation. If needed, he will contact emergency number for pick up
Mayor Tamburino reported the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has contacted all stakeholders, state, county and the Village of Hillside regarding our request, which all are now reviewing
