OAK PARK VILLAGE CLERK: Car taken at gunpoint, suspect charged

Oak Park Village Clerk issued the following announcement on June 27.

A Chicago juvenile was charged today in connection with a carjacking in Oak Park earlier this week in the 700 block of Wesley Avenue.

The 14-year-old from Chicago was charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking after being identified by the victim. The suspect later confessed.

The suspect had been arrested yesterday in Berwyn along with another juvenile. The juveniles arrested in Berwyn matched the description provided by the victim of the Wesley Avenue carjacking victim, prompting Berwyn Police to contact Oak Park Police.

The Oak Park victim was able to positively identify the one juvenile.

After the charge was filed by the Cook County State's Attorney, the juvenile was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in Chicago.

Jun 26, 2018 – A Forest Park man was forced to surrender his car at gunpoint at about 4 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Wesley Avenue in Oak Park.

The victim told Oak Park Police he was sitting in his car reading a newspaper when he was approached from the rear by two men, one on either side of his 2012 Honda Accord.

The man on the driver’s side displayed a handgun and ordered the driver out. The driver complied and the suspect got inside and drove away south on Wesley.

The victim said the second suspect entered a green or gold SUV parked nearby and drove away with a third man at the wheel.

No injuries were reported. The stolen vehicle was recovered at about 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 4400 block of West Gladys Avenue in Chicago. No suspects were apprehended.

The thieves were described as African American, 17 to 18 years old, about six-feet tall. The armed suspect was thin and wore a white tee shirt, according to the victim.
