Village of North Riverside Board of Trustees met June 4.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

Mayor Hermanek called the meeting to order with a Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call. In attendance were Trustee Bianco, Trustee Czajka, Trustee Demopoulos, Trustee Flores, Trustee Mengoni and Trustee Sarro.

Others in attendance were Finance Director Scarpiniti, Administrator Belmonte, Attorney Hayes,

Police Chief Garcia, Recreation Director Mrozik, Public Works Foreman Durec, Engineer Fitzgerald and Fire Chief Gaertner.

Approval of Agenda

Trustee Mengoni moved seconded by Trustee Czajka to approve the agenda for this meeting as presented. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Demopoulos, Flores, Mengoni, Sarro

NAYS: None. Motion carried

Bids- None

Cash Receipt Report- No report

Approval of Minutes

Trustee Czajka moved, seconded by Trustee Demopoulos to approve the May 21, 2018 Village Board Meeting Minutes as presented. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Demopoulos, Flores, Mengoni, Sarro

NAYS: None. Motion carried

Report of Trustees

Trustee Bianco- ( Water, Sewers, Drainage & Zoning)- No report

Report of Trustees

Trustee Czajka- (Judiciary, Ordinances, Recreation)- No report

Trustee Demopoulos( Streets, Alleys, Sidewalks & Garbage

Trustee Demopoulos read the following memo:

Village Engineer John Fitzgerald has prepared a resolution for the North Riverside’s 2018 MFT Project which must be submitted to IDOT. This year’s project has been estimated at $175,000 and will consist of the resurfacing of 23rd Street from 13th Avenue to 17th Avenue; 22nd Place from 13th Avenue to 14th Avenue; Park Avenue from 25th Street to the North Cul-de-sac and various locations of street patching. Engineer Fitzgerald will send out bids once everything is approved by IDOT. Attorney Hayes will handle the passage of the resolution later in the meeting.

Trustee Flores- ( Police, Fire & License)- No report

Trustee Mengoni- ( Finance Health & Appropriations)- No report

Trustee Sarro- (Public Buildings, Grounds, lights, Transportation, Plan Commission)-No report

Mayoral Report

Mayor Hermanek read the following Community Development Department Updates:

      Presales- The department performed eight single-family presale inspections totaling $3,240.00 in revenue.

      Permit totals- The department issued 44 residential and commercial permits totaling $11,489.16 in revenue.

      Octapharma Plasma- 7379 25th Street-Submitted drawings for a tenant bailout of three spaces at North Riverside Park Plaza. Octapharma Plasma Inc. is a U.S. based company that collects plasma used to create life-saving medicines for patients around the world They operate more than 80 donations centers in the U.S. and employ more than 3,500 people nationally. Cost of construction; $750,000.

      Divine Consign- Opened their doors for business at 1800 S. Harlem Avenue

      Vasperz- 7309 25th Street- Opened for business at North Riverside Park Plaza.

      2426 S. 8th Avenue- The property owner obtained a permit for a new garage.

Correspondence

      Block party request from 2218 Northgate on July 1st.

      Trevor Bork sent a thank you card thanking the Youth Scholarship Committee for the scholarship granted to him for his studies at Carthage College.

Trustee Czajka moved and Trustee Bianco seconded the block party request from 2218 Northgate for July 1st. Motion carried unanimously.

Approval of Bills

Trustee Mengoni moved, seconded by Trustee Flores to approve the list of bills submitted for this meeting totaling $862,659.21 and to have them paid out of proper funds when such funds become available. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Demopoulos, Flores, Mengoni, Sarro

NAYS: None. Motion carried

Ordinances and Resolutions

Trustee Demopoulos moved and Trustee Mengoni seconded to Approve a Resolution for Improvement Under the Illinois Highway Code for North Riverside’s 2018 MFT Project (18-R-03) and to waive the reading. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Demopoulos, Flores, Mengoni, Sarro

NAYS: None. Motion carried

New Business-None

Audience

      A resident asked about the possibility of Petes Fresh Market coming into North Riverside and Mayor Hermanek said property owners have been in contact with the store. Audience

      Ken Mason asked about the number of gambling establishments and if the village receives any money from these establishments. Mayor Hermanek stated that the village does receive a substantial amount of money and there is no limit as to the number of gambling establishments but would rather not see a vacant building.

      Barbara Wilson thanked all the departments for their service.

Adjournment

Trustee Czajka moved and Trustee Demopoulos seconded for adjournment of this meeting at 7:15 pm. Motion carried unanimously.
