Loyola Health System issued the following announcement on June 28.
MAYWOOD, IL – Loyola Medicine's Dorothy Pietrowski, MSN, RN, ACNP, ONC, has been selected to serve as president-elect of the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB).
Ms. Pietrowski is an orthopaedic spine nurse practitioner at Loyola Medicine. She works with the orthopaedic team at Loyola to assess, diagnose and treat patients from a non-operative standpoint.
Ms. Pietrowski, of Lockport, Illinois, is currently on the board of directors of the ONCB. As president-elect, she will continue fostering the development of orthopaedic nursing as a specialty during a time of change for the profession.
"Becoming certified as an orthopaedic nurse recognizes a commitment to lifelong learning and continuing competence," Ms. Pietrowski said. "The orthopaedic nurse has evolved with time. We now see nurses caring for patients in settings such as home health, ambulatory care, same day surgery, outpatient offices, triage, rehabilitation, along with inpatient care and in the operating room."
The ONCB was established to promote the highest standards of orthopaedic nursing practice through the development, implementation and coordination of all aspects of certification for orthopaedic nurses.
Through the Orthopaedic Nurse Certified and Advanced Practice Nurse exams, ONCB advances the care of orthopaedic patients and promotes excellence in specialty nursing practices by encouraging professional development and clinical practice.
Ms. Pietrowski's term as president-elect began May 23, 2018, and will last one year. She will then act as president of the organization.
Ms. Pietrowski earned her bachelor’s in nursing at Grand Valley State University and her master’s at Rush University Medical Center. She specializes in the treatment of the spine.
