Statewide test results: 83 percent of Washington students failed math

Grade school 01

About 17 percent of Washington Middle School students passed annual math assessments in 2017 and 83 percent of students failed, according to a West Cook News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Washington Middle School math scores, about 16 percent met expectations and 0.4 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 31 percent approached expectations, while 35 percent partially met expectations and 17 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Washington Middle School, which enrolled 731 students in 2017, fell below state averages.

Statewide, 31 percent of students passed the test and 69 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
