North Riverside FD responds to 28 fires in 2016

North Riverside Fire Department responded to 249 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in North Riverside included 28 fires - 20 structure fires, four vehicle fires and four other fires.

In all, the department saw $14,600 in fire loss - or about $521 per fire.

The department also received 221 false calls, including one malicious call and 220 other false calls.

The North Riverside Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 16 active employees and 17 retired or inactive employees, was $899,112 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $32,111 for every fire in 2016.
