Forest View FD responds to 41 fires in 2016

Forest View Fire Department responded to 129 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Forest View included 41 fires - 20 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 11 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $114,002 in fire loss - or about $2,781 per fire.

The department also received 88 false calls, including five malicious calls and 83 other false calls.

The Forest View Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has four active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $342,085 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,344 for every fire in 2016.
