Schiller Park FD responds to 28 fires in 2016

Schiller Park Fire Department responded to 255 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Schiller Park included 28 fires - 18 structure fires, four vehicle fires and five other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $36,000 in fire loss - or about $1,286 per fire.

The department also received 227 false calls, including four malicious calls and 223 other false calls.

The Schiller Park Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 25 active employees and 30 retired or inactive employees, was $1,182,710 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $42,240 for every fire in 2016.
