River Forest Public Schools District 90 Board met Feb. 21.

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of School District #90, Cook County, Illinois, was called to order in the Roosevelt Middle School Library Learning Center, 7560 Oak Avenue, River Forest, Illinois, on February 21, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.
The following Board Members responded present on roll call:
Mr. Ralph Martire, President Mrs. Anne Gottlieb, Vice-President Mr. Richard Moore, Secretary Ms. Stacey Williams Mrs. Barbara Hickey
Administrators present:
Dr. Ed Condon, Superintendent Dr. Alison Hawley, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Recording Secretary: Mr. Anthony Cozzi, Director of Finance and Facilities
Community present: Howard Wax, Roosevelt PTO Liaison Kathleen Perry, League of Women Voters
Mr. Martire welcomed visitors and invited comments from the audience. A copy of the Speakers Roster as well as the Attendance Roster is attached to the minutes.
It was moved by Ms. Williams and seconded by Mr. Moore that the Board of Education approve the agenda as presented.
On call of the roll, the vote was as follows:
Ayes: Ms. Williams, Mrs. Hickey, Mrs. Gottlieb, Mr. Martire, Mr. Moore
Nays: none
The motion carried.
Student Presentations
Mr. Martire introduced the following students to present current items of interest about their school building: Roosevelt - Luke Gilsillan, 7" grade
It was moved by Ms. Williams and seconded by Mr. Moore that the Board of Education approve the Consent Agenda to include the following, but not include the minutes to the February 7, 2017 Committee of the Whole meeting, due to a typographical error: January payrolls totaling $788,535.24, Board payments relating to payrolls totaling $327,318.09 and accounts payable totaling $607,278.07.
On roll call, the vote was as follows:
Ayes: Ms. Williams, Mrs. Hickey, Mrs. Gottlieb, Mr. Martire, Mr. Moore

District Calendar Review Dr. Condon reviewed the items in February and March that require Board member attendance. Each Board member identified which itern fit into his/her available schedule.
Outside Meetings were as follows: Council of Governments No meeting was held.
OPRFHS Citizens' Council A meeting was held to discuss changing the name of the group to the “Community Council.” The District 200 IT department gave a presentation using virtual reality devices on lesson planning. There was also a discussion about the removal of keyboarding from the curriculum and replaced with a class teaching digital citizenship and app proficiency.
Youth Network Council A meeting was held to announce that the social safety net is in place and currently successful. There were also discussions about applying for a grant to combat underage drinking.
Board Liaison District PTO Council A meeting was held at which the equity and inclusiveness of students in families in need of financial assistance was discussed.
Inclusiveness Advisory Board No report was given.
River Forest Service Club A meeting was held at which District 90’s communication strategies were discussed. The Service Club was very supportive of the District knowing that good Schools are integral to maintaining high property values in the village.
Citizen Corp Council No report was given.
IASB Governing Board No report was given.
ED-RED No report was given.
Collaboration A meeting was held to discuss communication strategies that would have the most benefit to the larger community as a whole.
Superintendent's Report Long-Range Facilities Plan – Mr. Cozzi presented the long-range
facilities plan listed by category and by building. He noted those items which represent routine projects required for the sustainability of the buildings and those items which represent an improvement initiative without regard to useful life. A Board discussion ensued about prioritization of future items.
Summer School 2017 - Dr. Condon complimented the summer School team for preparing the proposed summer school dates and structure of the program. The Board questioned if a survey of competitive enrichment programs has been done to see if a better product could be offered by the District,
Draft School Board Meeting Calendar - Dr. Condon presented the draft of the upcoming School Board Meeting Calendar, in which the Board discussed changing the start time of Regular Board meetings from 7:30pm to 7:00pm, to coincide with Committee of the Whole meeting start times,

It was moved by Mrs. Gottlieb and seconded by Ms. Williams that amended the Board of Education approve as amended.

It was moved by Ms. Williams and seconded by Mrs. Gottlieb that the Board of Education move into closed session in order to discuss 1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; and 2) Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. On roll call, the vote was as follows:
Ayes: Mrs. Gottlieb, Mr. Martire, Mr. Moore, Mrs. Hickey, Ms. Williams Nays: none
The motion carried and the Board moved into closed session at approximately 9:11 p.m.
The Board returned to open session with the same members present at approximately 10:04 p.m.
Committee Meeting Dates A Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in the Roosevelt Library Learning Center at 7:00 p.m.
It was moved by Mr. Moore and seconded by Mrs. Gottlieb and unanimously carried that the meeting be adjourned. The meeting adjourned at approximately 0:04 p.m.
