North Riverside Board of Trustees grants soliciting permission

The village of North Riverside Board of Trustees met Feb. 6 to grant soliciting permission.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING FEBRUARY 6, 2017

COUNCIL ROOM 7:00 PM

Mayor Hermanek called the meeting to order with a Pledge of Allegiance and a Roll Call. In

attendance were Trustee Bianco, Trustee Czajka, Trustee Decosola, Trustee Demopoulos,

Trustee Mengoni and Trustee Wilt.

Others in attendance were Attorney Hayes, Administrator Belmonte, Finance Director

Scarpiniti, Police Chief Niemann, Recreation Director Michalik, Public Works Director Kutt and

Deputy Fire Chief Gaertner.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Trustee Demopoulos moved seconded by Trustee Wilt to approve the revised agenda for this

meeting. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Decosola, Demopoulos, Mengoni, Wilt

NAYS: None. Motion carried

BIDS- None

CASH RECEIPT REPORT- None

APPOVAL OF MINUTES

Trustee Mengoni moved, seconded by Trustee Bianco to approve the January 16, 2017 Village

Board Meeting Minutes as presented. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Decosola, Demopoulos, Mengoni, Wilt

NAYS: None. Motion carried

Trustee Decosola- ( Judiciary, Ordinances, Recreation)

Trustee Decosola read the following report from the Recreation Department:

Three full-time employees attended the annual statewide Parks and Recreation Conference.

This summit provided further education on pertinent topics in the field, networking

opportunities and direct access to vendor organizations.

We are approaching midseason for our 2017 Basketball League. This year, we experienced a

20% growth with an additional 60 children in the program. We are working with Komarek

School in providing a secondary site for games. The department representation has been

increased at both locations to ensure the quality and success throughout the season.

On February 1st, the 2017 summer day camp registration was opened to returning participants.

Both Adventure and Action Camps are currently over 43% full. New participant registration

begins on February 15th

. We encourage anyone interested in day camp to secure their spot this

month. The department will be sending out additional reminders to the community this week.

Trustee Demopoulos( Water, Sewers, Drainage & Zoning)- No report

Trustee Mengoni- ( Police, Fire & License)

Trustee Mengoni announced that the Fire Department’s new Hurst eDraulic Combination

Spreader/Cutter was put into service on Truck 806. This tool will be used by Truck Company

Firefighters for forcible entry to steel doors and to remove/cut burglar bars on structures.

Trustee Mengoni also submitted the Fire and EMS calls for the month of January 2017 with the

Clerk’s Office as follows:

Trustee Wilt ( Finance, Health & Appropriations)-No report

MAYORAL REPORT

Mayor Hermanek read the following Community Development Department Updates as follows:

 Presales-The Community Development Department performed five single-family presale

inspections totaling $2,025.00 in revenue.

 Permit Totals- Forty (40) residential and commercial permits totaling $13,106.26 in

revenue were issued.

 Raising Cane’s – The Grand Opening for Raising Cane’s was held on January 31st with

elected officials from North Riverside and Berwyn attending the event.

 Krispy Krunchy Chicken- Open in the food court of North Riverside Park Mall on January

16th

.

 2333 7th Avenue- A permit was issued for a second floor addition. Value of construction

was listed at $40,000.

 Footlocker- Has submitted plans for remodeling of a new tenant space in North

Riverside Park Mall. Value of construction is listed at $150,000.

 Home Line Furniture- A permit has been issued for 7229 W. 24th Street in North

Riverside Plaza, previously occupied by Hancock Fabrics. Value of construction is listed

at $95,000.

CORRESPONDENCE

 Misericordia requested permission to solicit on April 28th and 29th at the following

intersections for the Candy Day Event:

-Cermak and 17th Avenue

-Cermak and 1st Avenue

-Cermak and Des Plaines Avenue

-Cermak and Harlem Avenue

Trustee Mengoni moved and Trustee Wilt seconded to approve the above request from

Misericordia for their Candy Days Event. Motion carried unanimously.

 Marlene Wolter sent a thank you letter addressed to Chief Basek, regarding the

paramedics and thanked them for their professionalism during her time of need.

APPROVAL OF BILLS

Trustee Wilt moved, seconded by Trustee Demopoulos to approve the list of bills submitted for

this meeting totaling $564,889.81 and to have them paid out of proper funds when such funds

become available. Roll Call Vote:

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Decosola, Demopoulos, Mengoni, Wilt

NAYS: None. Motion carried

ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS

Trustee Wilt moved and Trustee Demopoulos seconded to approve a Tax Levy Abatement

(17-O-01) and to waive the reading. Roll Call Vote

AYES: Trustees Bianco, Czajka, Decosola, Demopoulos, Mengoni, Wilt

NAYS: None. Motion carried

UNFNISHED BUSINESS-None

NEW BUSINESS

Trustee Czajka mentioned that Komarek School will be celebrating their 80th anniversary on

April 28th

.

Barbara Wilson once again thanked the Village Board and Departments for their service.

ADJOURNMENT

Trustee Decosola moved and Trustee Mengoni seconded for adjournment at 7:15 pm. Motion

carried unanimously.
