Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy (PMSA) will open its doors 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 to welcome prospective students for potential admission for the upcoming school year at its campus at 8601 W. Roosevelt Rd., Forest Park.

While attending an open house is not mandatory for acceptance, PMSA encourages potential applicants to choose one of its three scheduled events, with subsequent dates slated for Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 — all in the same 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. time slot.

School officials including faculty and staff will join current enrollees in welcoming interested students and their families. Guides will provide tours of the campus and visitors will attend a presentation about the academy’s classes and available programs.

"We’re happy that admissions season is beginning for the 2017-2018 school year," Principal Bessie Karvelas said. "We would like all of the eighth-graders and their parents to come and find out information about our school, our programs, and our successes."

In addition to the open houses, PMSA invites eighth-graders and their parents or guardians to either of two “shadowing” days scheduled for Oct. 27 and Nov. 17. While the open houses are walk-in, shadowing events require reservations by contacting the school office at 708-338-4100.

Applications will be accepted through Jan. 15, 2017 and must be hand delivered or postmarked by that date. Applicants will be required to remit transcripts, recommendations and certain test scores along with other qualifying criteria. Selection will begin in late January; applications can be downloaded from pmsa.pths209.org/.
