At a meeting this week, the Cook County Board of Commissioners proposed a resolution calling on the U.S. Senate to exercise its advise-and-consent duties and hold a hearing on Merrick Garland, President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court.
The board also considered a resolution to reduce the salary of each Cook County commissioner and the board president by $10,000 per year to support the residents of Cook County and fund employment opportunities for residents.
The board also considered a resolution to support state House Bill 4633, the Unclaimed Life Insurance Benefits Act, which would require all insurers with clients living in Illinois and regulated by the state's Department of Insurance to make a good-faith effort to find beneficiaries and pay out benefits when policy holders pass away and beneficiaries don't step forward soon afterward.
