West Chicago hoopster Tai Bibbs was selected as one of the 20 finalists for the U.S. Army-Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence.
Bibbs, a junior at West Chicago Community High School (WCCHS), will be honored with an all-school assembly at WCCHS on April 14 and will be presented with the award by a Pro Football Hall of Famer at the formal ceremony.
Bibbs also will be honored during Enshrinement Weekend at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The 20 finalists will be present for the announcement of the U.S. Army-Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence winner.
Bibbs was named All-Conference in the Upstate Eight Valley Division. The WCCHS boys basketball team won its first Conference Championship in the school's history. In addition to his basketball honors, Bibbs ran track as a freshman and sophomore, and made the High Honor Roll every year.
Bibbs passed on a few words of wisdom to upcoming student athletes.
“Don’t be afraid to be original, and no matter how much you may disagree with your parents right now, just know that later in life, you will be thankful for all of the lessons they have taught you," Bibbs said. "And…always compete."
Bibbs is already looking toward the future, with plans to attend a Division 1 college to study sports medicine, then hopefully land a position as a trainer for a professional basketball team after graduation.
