WCCHS senior wins Class 4A Three-Point Showdown title

West Chicago Community High School's (WCCHS) Jacob Wiegele shot 13 three-point baskets on Friday to take the Class 4A Country Financial Three-Point Showdown title and become the IHSA 3-point Class 4A Champion.

A senior at West Chicago Community High School, Wiegele beat 35 other shooters.

Wiegele advanced to the all-class King of the Hill competition, held Saturday, March 19, at the Carver Arena in Peoria. Wiegele competed against the champions from Class 1A, Nic Hagel; Class 2A, Cristian Camarillo and Class 3A, Jonah Smith. He tied Hagel and Smith for second place with eight three-pointers. Camarillo won with 11.

Preliminaries for Classes 3A and 4A were held on Thursday, March 17. Each class was broken into four groups of eight shooters each. Wiegele took top place in the Class 4A preliminaries and moved up to the final round on Friday night, competing against the three other top players in his class. The competition was held between the two 4A semi-final basketball games and was telecast on Comcast SportsNet.

Wiegele dominated the competition with his 13 treys. Second place was taken by Carl Sandburg High School senior Sean McShane with nine three-pointers. Lincoln-Way Central High School senior Jarret Gmazel took third and St. Charles East High School senior Grayson Brucato took fourth in the competition.
