Laura Ann Spencer of Perma-Seal Basement Systems Inc. has been named a 2016 Woman of Influence award winner by the American City Business Journal, a parent company of the Chicago Business Journal.

Spencer is the executive vice president of Perma-Seal, a company that specializes in waterproofing basements and repairing foundations. She has worked with the company for more than 10 years, fostering a thriving company culture.

The Woman of Influence award focuses on female business leaders in the Chicagoland area who demonstrate outstanding achievements in the community and who focus on mentoring others. Winners were selected by advisers and editors from the American City Business Journal.

"We work smart, act with urgency and remain constructively discontent," Spencer said. "You cannot teach others if you aren't always learning and seeking personal improvement."

One of the core Perma-Seal values that Spencer upholds is giving back to the community. She serves on the board of directors for Loaves & Fishes Community Services, a DuPage County non-profit organization. She leads donation drives and fundraisers within Perma-Seal for many local non-profits, including DuPage PADS, Bernie's Book Bank, SEASPAR and Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce Attainable Futures program.

Perma-Seal has served Chicagoland and northwest Indiana for more than 37 years. The company's services also include plumbing and sewer maintenance services.
