A winter storm warning has been issued for the area, with snow expected to start overnight and continue through Saturday. Authorities warn that travel could become very difficult during the storm, advising residents to consider alternate plans.

LRS will adjust its schedule due to the holiday and anticipated weather conditions. Saturday morning collection for the regular Friday route will begin 30 minutes earlier than usual. Residents are asked to place their carts at the curb by 6:00 am but not in the street, as this could pose a danger to motorists and hinder salting or plowing operations.

Overnight street parking enforcement is suspended until Sunday night. However, if snowfall reaches two inches, street parking is prohibited until 12 hours after the snow ends so that streets can be cleared efficiently. Residents are urged to move cars off the streets once it begins to snow.

This weekend marks the final opportunity for leaf collection at the curb. Any significant snow accumulation may lead to suspension of leaf collection services. If leaves freeze or mix with snow, they may be pushed back onto parkways during plowing, complicating future collections during colder weather. The same equipment used for leaf collection is being converted for use in salting and plowing in preparation for the storm.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather and travel conditions through sources such as National Weather Service Chicago and sign up for Cook County Alerts or text their zip code to 888777 for mobile updates.
