The Village of Western Springs has opened its Parkway Tree Replacement Program for spring, inviting residents to participate in planting new parkway trees. Through the program, property owners can share the cost with the Village, paying about 25% ($80) while the Village covers 75% ($270). This fee includes the tree itself, shipping, and planting services. Plantings are scheduled for spring.
According to the Village, “Priority consideration is given to those residents who have recently had a tree removed from the parkway. Requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis, until limited supplies are exhausted, and form submission does not guarantee a planting. Anyone who did not receive a tree in the fall due to depleted stock, should re-submit an application to be considered for a spring planting.”

Western Springs operates under a council-manager government system that separates policy-making from administration and relies on professional staff as well as advisory boards made up of resident volunteers. These boards address community issues and provide recommendations on matters such as public works projects and environmental initiatives like this tree replacement program (https://wsprings.com/). The village manager implements policies set by elected officials who serve on a volunteer basis (https://wsprings.com/).
Village offices are located at 740 Hillgrove Avenue (https://wsprings.com/).
