Children and families gathered at the Cicero Community Center on October 29 for the town’s annual Trick or Treat event. The celebration drew a large crowd, with children in costumes lining up outside the building to receive candy and treats.

Director of Special Events Patty Sturdevant commented on the success of this year’s event: “This has been our most successful year yet! We have over 35 participants handing out candy this year, and the turnout has been incredible. We couldn’t do it without the support of President Larry Dominick and the Board of Trustees.”

The decision to move festivities indoors was made after discussions between President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and event organizers. Director Sturdevant explained, “The weather can be unpredictable, and this way, the kids stay warm, they’re getting candy, and they’re still having fun.”

Parents voiced their appreciation for providing a safe space for children. One parent said, “It’s wonderful that parents can feel comfortable knowing their kids are having fun in a safe environment.”

In addition to town employees from various departments who handed out candy while dressed in costumes themselves, local organizations also contributed to the evening. District 99, District 201, and the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee participated to help make the night memorable for families.

Attendees noted how much they enjoyed seeing children in creative costumes ranging from dinosaurs and vampires to superheroes and princesses. As one attendee remarked: “Seeing all these creative costumes and happy families is wonderful. It’s especially great for families who can’t go out tomorrow—it’s warm, safe, and fun inside.”

As festivities concluded, organizers highlighted how community involvement made this year’s event stand out. The collaboration among staff members and partner organizations helped ensure thousands of families could enjoy Halloween together.
