The Town of Cicero held its first Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at Cicero Community Park, bringing together local officials, residents, and community organizations. The event was organized by Town President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and the Cicero Health Department with help from volunteers.
First Lady Diana Dominick led the walk alongside families and friends dressed in pink. Participants aimed to show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer and to promote early detection.
“Today, the Town of Cicero unites to raise awareness about breast cancer,” said Health Department Operations Director Vanessa Parrish. “It’s about showing support for survivors, honoring those we’ve lost, and reminding everyone of the importance of early detection.”
Parrish also highlighted the role of such events in strengthening community ties. “Events like this bring our community together for a cause that touches many families. Cicero has always been known for its unity and compassion, and this walk proves that we don’t just talk — we act.”
Town President Larry Dominick acknowledged the turnout and collective spirit: “Cicero is known for its strong sense of community, and it’s wonderful to see people coming together for a purpose,” said Dominick. “We all know someone affected by cancer, and we pray for a cure someday. Events like this remind us to work together and support one another.”
Dominick thanked those involved in organizing the walk. “Vanessa and Amanda Wolf did an excellent job organizing this, and I hope it becomes an annual tradition. It’s inspiring to see everyone united for such an important cause.”
Technology Director Amanda Wolf spoke about teamwork during planning: “It was truly inspiring to see our community come together for such an important cause,” Wolf said. “We can spread awareness faster and reach more families — helping ensure education, prevention, and support are always within reach.”
Trustee Blanca Vargas emphasized preventive health measures: “Today’s event was an excellent and meaningful experience for many women and their families. Women should be sure to get screenings every year to help with early detection. I want to thank President Dominick and First Lady Diana Dominick for helping make this walk possible. So many people came out today to walk against cancer, and we must continue supporting one another.”
The event ended with applause, group photos, and calls from participants to make the walk an annual tradition focused on hope, awareness, and unity.
