McClure students, parents, and staff are invited to participate in Bike and Walk to School Day on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The event will begin at 7:30 am at the Spring Rock Park Upper Pavilion, with participants entering off Central Avenue at Elm. The group will bike and walk to school together starting at 7:40 am.
The first 50 participants will receive a discount coupon for BB’s Donuts as well as gift bags containing bike safety accessories. All attendees will be provided with granola bars and water bottles. Western Springs Police Officers will be present during the event to help ensure safety for everyone involved.
Organizers describe the day as an opportunity to encourage healthy habits and foster connections among students, families, and neighbors. "This is a great way to promote healthy habits, connect with friends and neighbors, and start the day with a smile. We can’t wait to see you there!" they said.
The Village of Western Springs continues its efforts to improve student safety through its Safe Travel to School Plan. A second public survey is currently open for feedback on possible infrastructure improvements aimed at making it easier for students to bike, walk, or roll to school. The survey remains available until October 31, 2025.
