The Cicero Police Department has announced a joint effort with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to address speeding across Illinois. This initiative will include increased patrols throughout July targeting speeding and other traffic violations.

“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous,” said Superintendent Thomas Boyle. “Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law.”

Officials say that speeding reduces drivers’ ability to steer safely around vehicles, obstacles, or unexpected road conditions. As part of this campaign, officers will focus on enforcing posted speed limits more strictly. Particular attention will be given to areas in Cicero where speed-related crashes are common: Cicero Avenue from 31st Street to Pershing Road, Ogden Avenue from 26th Street to 31st Street, and Laramie Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Cermak Road. The stated goal is to reduce accidents and save lives.
