The Cook County Bureau of Technology’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division has released CookViewer 3.1, a major update to its property information platform initially launched in 2010. This version offers improvements in performance, compatibility, and user experience on both desktop and mobile devices.

CookViewer 3.1 utilizes an upgraded mapping engine based on the ArcGIS Maps Software Development Kit for JavaScript, which provides faster load times and enhanced interactivity. The app now incorporates the Calcite Design System 3.0, giving users a modern interface.

“As technology evolves, so must our tools,” stated Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle. “CookViewer 3.1 reflects our commitment to keeping public data accessible, navigable and useful to everyone in the county.”

New features include a Help dialog and guided tour for first-time users, enhancing user experience and education by simplifying navigation of the platform. Parcel symbology has been improved for better readability with increased contrast between parcel boundaries and aerial imagery.

The update also introduces a redesigned Measure tool and streamlined PDF property reports for more accurate assessments and easier printing of detailed property information. Usability enhancements feature standardized panel controls, improved mobile layouts, and new visual cues for printing and parcel selection processes.

Several bugs have been addressed to enhance stability and eliminate workflow disruptions, particularly in the Comparable Search and Select Multiple Parcels tools. CookViewer is available in English and Spanish.

Since its inception in 2010, CookViewer has become a trusted resource for residents, businesses, and government agencies. With Version 3.1, Cook County continues its focus on transparency, innovation, and equity in providing geographic information to the public.
