The Cicero Police Department took part in the annual "Cop on a Rooftop" event, joining forces with police departments across Illinois to support Special Olympics Illinois. The event was held on Friday, May 16, at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at Cermak Road and Cicero Avenue. Officers were present from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m., engaging with customers and collecting donations.

Now in its 22nd year, "Cop on a Rooftop" serves as a platform for law enforcement and local communities to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. Officers were seen waving signs, distributing thank-you stickers, and encouraging donations both from the rooftop and among supporters below.

Superintendent of Police Tom Boyle highlighted the significance of the department's involvement: "The Cicero Police Department is honored to take part in ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ each year. It’s a fun and visible way to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to inclusion, support, and community partnership with Special Olympics Illinois."

Boyle also acknowledged the strong turnout from the community: "We’re extremely grateful to Dunkin’ at Cermak and Cicero, our Cicero community, and all the motorists that made donations during our ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ event yesterday. That support empowers Special Olympics athletes to compete, grow, and inspire."

The funds collected during this event will aid in providing year-round training and competitions for thousands of Special Olympics athletes throughout Illinois. Those who missed the opportunity to donate can still contribute online at specialolympics.org/illinois.
