On the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Cicero Community Center was lively as seniors gathered to celebrate Mother’s Day. The event commenced with a welcome from Town Historian John Kociolko, who acknowledged the leadership behind the gathering. Residents applauded Town President Larry Dominick for his dedication to Cicero’s seniors. “Let’s give a nice round of applause to our town president, the honorable Larry Dominick,” Kociolko said.
Town Board members and volunteers attended, including Senior Center Director and First Lady Diana Dominick. She spoke about honoring mothers' love and selflessness: “Whether you are a mom, a grandmother, or someone who cared for another in a special way—we thank you. We see you. We celebrate you.”
Local partners like How to Fade Barberschool, Capelli Cosmetology, and Oak Street Health contributed by pampering seniors while student volunteers from District 99 and 201 added energy to the celebration. Non-alcoholic piña coladas were served alongside music and bingo.
President Dominick emphasized mothers' importance: “Every child has one mother. It could have two or three fathers, but they always have one mother,” he said. Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias thanked seniors for their dedication: “Now it’s our time to give back.”
Resident Frank Kraut shared his experiences raising children in Cicero under supportive leadership; his son is now a U.S. Army colonel and his daughter leads at Rush Hospital.
The event was more than just a celebration; it was a reunion and tribute to mothers whose strength has shaped generations.
