The Cicero Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with the 2016 murder of Julio Servin. On August 21, 2016, officers responded to a report of gunfire near 5539 W. Cermak Road. Upon arrival, they found Julio Servin, aged 22, lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After an investigation, Victor Martinez, a 19-year-old from Cicero, was identified as the suspect. Martinez fled to Mexico shortly after the incident occurred. Detectives collaborated closely with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office – Felony Review Unit and secured an arrest warrant for first-degree murder.

On May 1, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Victor Martinez at Midway International Airport upon his return. He was then transferred into the custody of Cicero Police Department detectives.

The following day, on May 2, 2025, two counts of first-degree murder were approved against Victor Martinez by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The Cicero Police Department expressed gratitude towards all law enforcement partners involved in this case, particularly acknowledging the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service.

They also reminded the public that "the reported charges do not constitute proof of the defendant’s guilt." They emphasized that "a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government bears the burden of establishing guilt beyond a reasonable doubt."
